ARTX Lagos'25

This presentation brings together the powerful voices of contemporary African and diasporic women artists whose practices rethink traditional visual language while honouring identity, memory, and selfhood. Through painting, collage, lacework, and richly layered conceptual processes, these artists rebuild narratives of Black womanhood across cultures and generations, engaging themes such as identity reclaimed through material choices, the politics of visibility, ancestral memory, and the evolving expressions of femininity as resistance, renewal, and continuity. Their individual approaches converge into a collective dialogue that bridges the personal with the communal, crafting stories that resonate far beyond the canvas. With this selection, Affinity Gallery affirms its role as a committed platform for research-driven, aesthetically bold, and culturally significant work by women shaping the trajectory of global contemporary art. As we present the practices of Onosowobo, Walters, and Nobakada at ART X Lagos 2025, we invite collectors, curators, and audiences to encounter a rich, multi-layered reflection on what it means to see, remember, and reimagine ourselves.
