Featuring Buqaqawuli Nobakada, Joke Amusan and Samuel Nnorom
Affinity Gallery presents three distinctive artistic practices exploring identity, femininity, cultural memory, and human connection. Through mixed-media portraiture, immersive installations, and textile sculpture, the artists examine the complexities of contemporary African and diasporic experiences. ...
Buqaqawuli Nobakada (b. 2000) is a South African mixed-media artist who uses acrylic and lace to celebrate Black femininity, beauty, and self-determination. Her work has received international recognition, including the 2025 Tilga Art Prize.
Joke Amusan is a German-Nigerian artist based in London whose immersive installations explore Black womanhood, heritage, and migration, creating spaces for storytelling, dialogue, and shared experiences. She received the Thameslink Art Award in 2025.
Samuel Nnorom (b. 1990) is a Nigerian multidisciplinary artist known for transforming discarded Ankara fabrics and textile remnants into sculptural bubble forms that explore coexistence, resilience, and human relationships. His work has received international recognition and is held in major collections, including Pérez Art Museum Miami.
Together, the artists offer a compelling dialogue on identity, belonging, and the transformative power of material and memory, reflecting Affinity Gallery’s commitment to contemporary African and diasporic art.
