Theresah Ankomah

Theresah Ankomah is a multidisciplinary Ghanaian artist who works and lives in Ghana. She is a two time graduate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. Her works in various media touch upon subjects of equal importance to society. Theresah’s socially engaged practice observes, defies, conflates and interrogates everyday objects to explore moments of transformation, community, intimacy and family. In her expansive practice consisting of paintings, printmaking, installation, fashion, performance and weaving, she uses basket weaving as her viewfinder to investigate the complexities of craft by abstracting and experimenting with objects and materials that hold memory. ...
In 2021 Theresah was the second runner up of the Inaugural Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize in Africa by Gallery 1957 and also the first runner up of the Kuenyehia Art Prize for Contemporary Art in Ghana, in 2017. Her work, ‘The Shrine’ is in the permanent collections of the Kuenyehia Trust, Her work titled ‘Connecting the Why and the Not’ is also in the permanent collections of the European Union Delegation to Ghana. Her work has been included in publications and exhibitions such as the MasterCard Foundation’s Art Book on Hope, Energy and Ingenuity: Voices of African Youth, 2018. 1-54 Art fair 2023, London.
