Born in Jos, Nigeria. In in1981, Phillips Nzekwe is considered to be one of Nigeria's most distinguished experimental artists who explores the rich material culture from his environment, emanating from consumerism. His art comments on daily issues affecting him as an African such as climate change, freedom of expression, the rights of the child, etc. His artistic techniques are inspired by African traditional arts and architecture, tropical colors of nature, and contemporary 3-dimensional animated images. ... Phillips Nzekwe has been a full-time studio artist for close to two decades. He is a recipient of the Triangle Trust Grant (2012-2013). He was an artist in residence at Kuona Trust Art Center, (Kenya, 2013), Ebedi International Artist Writers Center, (Nigeria, 2015), Marble Hill School, Delta, state Nigeria, and Yemaja Gallery, Lagos, Nigeria (2019). His solo exhibitions include: 'Crush Rave Art Fair, Miami (2020), 'Raw Intuition. The National Museum, Lagos (2019), 'Reaching Out', Nairobi Gallery, Nairobi, 'Perspective' 'Quintessence Gallery, Lagos. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and fairs as The Rave Art Fair Miami, USA, Impart Art fair Lagos, Nigeria and his works are held in numerous private collections globally.
