Muofhe Manavhela, (2000)

Rotondwa Muofhe Manavhela, (b. 2000) is a young multi-disciplinary artist based in Johannesburg. Muofhe explores themes surrounding black women which is informed by her personal experience of navigating black womanhood in the 21st-century African landscape, and delve into their complexities and daily experiences. Muofhe has taken her place as a social commentator by using her art to explore the positioning of Black women in the landscape of a society that underestimates them. Her work aims to deconstruct any harmful narratives and reconstruct our perceptions of black women through depicting honest representation.

The artist uses a variety of mediums mainly paint, and printmaking, to communicate themes of sexuality, youth, freedom, pleasure, and the domesticity of women. Her work is simultaneously honest and fun.
